Ini Okopido Lambasts Udom over attempt to hijack ONE’s Blueprint, Aisha Buhari’s pet project
…Accuses Ini Ememobong of sponsoring creation of Fake Whatsapp Groups to tarnish APC
January 14, 2019 ~ Uyo
Hon Ini Okopido, Akwa Ibom State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has expressed dismay over “a number of unwholesome activities reportedly carried out by the campaign organisation of Governor Udom Gabriel Emmanuel, Divine Mandate”.
Addressing newsmen in Uyo, Monday, Hon Okopido stated that “For a long time, the Akwa Ibom State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has ignored a lot of the shenanigans of the Peoples Democratic Party in the state”, and averred that in the light of series of ugly developments perpetuated in the state by the current administration in the past few days, it has become necessary for the party to set the records straight to avoid innocent members of the public being misled.
He said were it for PDP’s relentless propaganda and throwing of tantrums, his party, the APC, would not have bothered dignifying them with a response but that since “it borders on criminality, assumption of the intellectual property of the APC and the dubious)implementation of the manifesto of our candidate for the forthcoming gubernatorial elections, Obong Nsima Ekere, then we feel compelled to respond as a party”.
Hon Okopido who alleged Gov Udom of being desperate in implementing “Obong Nsima Ekere’s ‘NEW VISION FOR OUR COLLECTIVE PROSPERITY’ document, his prospectus for the economic and social advancement of the state”, frown at what he described as the brazen intellectual property theft of the APC gubernatorial candidate’s blueprint by the present administration.
“A few weeks ago we unveiled our manifesto. It was well received by all and sundry, because it contains detailed prescriptions on how APC is going to heal our land and bring prosperity. The governorship candidate of All Progressives Congress, APC, Obong Nsima Ekere, had in his speech at the presentation …declared that he would ensure the immediate reactivation of the Akwa Palm Industries as one of his priorities within the first one hundred days in office as Governor… to immediately throw up thousands of direct and indirect jobs” for teeming Akwa Ibomites, the text of the media briefing reads in part.
Dwelling on that, Okopido said it was unfortunate that until Obong Ekere presented his blueprint, Gov Emmanuel was still yet to discover the Akwa Palm Industry as “a low hanging job creation fruit that would set the tone for massive employment and sustained industrial empowerment of the state” (as articulated by ONE in the said document).
He added that it was shameful for Governor Udom to rush and inaugurate a taskforce for the reactivation of that palm project without even acknowledging the owner of the idea he now finds worthy of implementing.
He further accused Governor Udom of being helpless and bereft of ideas to the point of also illegally adopting Nigeria’s First Lady’s pet project – Future Assured initiative – recently launched by the First Lady herself, Aisha Buhari during her visit to Akwa Ibom last month.
“Only last week, our attention was drawn to the fact that he has also started using the slogan, coined and authored by First Lady, Mrs. Aisha Buhari, Future Assured, as his campaign slogan. While I will not speak on behalf of the First Lady, because she has very qualified assistants, including lawyers, I believe it is important to investigate the rightful owner of the copyright of “Future Assured”. He has no ideas. He has no shame. He has no moral authority to continue to preside over the affairs of Akwa Ibom State. And come March 2, 2019, Akwa Ibom people will send him packing”, Okopido thundered.
Also reacting to the social media war raging in the state lately, Hon Okopido descended on the People Democratic Party (PDP) Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ini Ememobong whom he alleged was the one sponsoring the creation of Fake social media accounts to tarnish the image of APC leaders in the state.
“A few days ago, our attention was drawn to the screenshot of a WhatsApp group, ‘Udom Till 2023,’ where Ini Ememobong, the State Publicity Secretary of the PDP, instructed his people to create a fake APC Account, using key leaders of our party, the APC, to create a fake, dubious and criminal conversation, purporting our party leaders to be engage in criminal activity. Let me quote a portion of that conversation which was initiated by Ini Ememobong: “Get trusted PDP members to do this… create an APC group, use their key leaders name and make a chat as if they sponsored NANS to carry out the writing of the propaganda letter, after which you make viral the screenshot copy. Do it well. #OnlyGod…”, part of Okopido’s text of the media briefing capturing the phantom chat reads in part.
Speaking further, Okopido who stated that indeed, “blackmails and character assassination… has become a stock-in-trade among the PDP media handlers further intimated newsmen that his party was in possession of yet “another screenshot of this fake WhatsApp group chat, ostensibly signed by PDP agents, but purporting same to have been a conversation between two APC elders, where they claimed that APC gave NANS president and NANS N600,000 to protest against the state government” describing the action as “pure criminality”.
Dwelling on the paid rally, Okopido regretted that the governor could “gathered students, which he promised N31 million, to march in Uyo for him” but could not honour his bargain thereby causing the “so called solidarity rally dissolving into fiasco, leading to mayhem, vandalism, injuries and breakdown in law and order” in the state.
Although he said he pity Udom Emmanuel and his team over what he described as lack of vision for Akwa Ibom state, as well as his indulgence in a campaign without morality desperate to the point of criminality, Okopido on behalf of APC and every suffering Akwa Ibomite condemned what he described as wanton trickery by the present administration.
He also “call on the Inspector General of Police and appropriate law enforcement agencies to investigate Ini Ememobong, to know whose directives he is implementing, and what appropriate laws he has broken or breached in his unfortunate Whatsapp directive”.
He said he was “drafting a formal petition to the law enforcement agencies to investigate this matter, because we cannot allow law breakers, in wanton disregard of our best tenets, to walk scot free and, worse still, determine who administers the affairs of the state”.
