The effusive celebrations in Akwa Ibom Government House over Senator Ita Enang’s purported sack have revealed, once again, the meanness, pettiness and nastiness of our people.
It shows how narrow partisanship has beclouded our sense of community and dimmed our knowledge of Nigeria’s politics. To start with, Senator Ita Enang is at work as at today (Tuesday, 13 August 2019). He has not received any communication whatsoever about being dropped from the Presidency. And truly, Ita Enang has not been sacked. The story, first reported by Premium Times, is therefore as false as its is fake. I believe that the report was engendered, sponsored and promoted by the officials of the state government who have, over the years, been uncomfortable with Senator Enang’s immense contributions to the growth of APC in the state and his fervent propagation of the vision of the Buhari administration.
Immediately Premium Times posted the fake news, many officials of the state government and PDP supporters in the state jumped into a frenzy in the Social media in uninhibited celebrations. Essien Ndueso, Gov. Udom Emmanuel’s media staffer, was quick to announce that the popular radio programme sponsored by Enang, would soon be off the air.
The talk show promotes good governance and the activities Buhari administration. I have been a guest of the radio programme several times to speak on school feeding programme, Anchor borrowers Programme and other initiatives of the federal government, as well as call out on the state government on its lacklustre records. For the governor’s aide to quickly prophesy the death of the radio show indicates that it has been a thorn in the flesh of the government. No wonder they tried to copy it. Other persons have gone further to insinuate that Senator Godswill Akpabio is behind the purported sacking. The usual drill!
Sen.Ita Solomon Etang
But why would anybody sane person in the state wish ill of Ita Enang, and go further to celebrate his replacement with a guy from Osun State?
Does it mean that the Osun State Senator will serve Akwa Ibom better than Ita Enang? Apart from his sterling performance on the job as the SSA to the President on NASS (Senate), Enang has facilitated the employment of many Akwa Ibom people into the federal system, helped in the award of the contract for the Calabar-Itu road and, at a personal level; he opens his doors to all Akwa Ibomites who visit Abuja.
I can say categorically that he’s one of the most hospitable prominent Akwa Ibom persons in Abuja. Now with Senator Godswill Akpabio as a minister, both men would constitute a formidable channel for the upliftment of Akwa Ibom. It is therefore a shame, a big shame indeed, that instead of building on the legacies of its predecessors, the administration in Uyo is busy plotting sinister schemes against important citizens of the state, perhaps for noxious political reasons.
